October 24, 2019

There’s a nice chill in the air which makes for a great environment when training hard outside of the gym.  Our morning programs will certainly benefit from the end of Daylight Savings time on 3 November.  As the weather gets more harsh toward the end of the year, all of our locations do have indoor options.  That said, we are a fitness “boot camp” and although that term has been molested to include programs that are little more than adult day care and narcissistic selfies…Shark Fitness clients take pride in training in a wide variety of climates and conditions without the need of social media gratification.

This is the final week of the evening Shaw Park program.  Monday, the next Clayton M/W/F 6:00am begins and our evening class (5:30-6:30pm) moves to the SLCC Meramec Campus in Kirkwood for the winter.  Sarah’s M/W/F 5:45am class starts a new session on Wednesday morning.  The next series of T/TH Meramec, Francis Park and the last sessions of 2019 are just a few weeks away.  The complete list of classes is below.  This is serious training for people who are serious about their health and conditioning.

I asked one of my classes what they would like to read about in this month’s newsletter.  One client quickly suggested a word or two about being more consistent with training.  Great topic!  Life sometimes has a way of getting in the way of training…kids, work, illness, travel, etc.  Along with scheduling issues is the ebb and flow of personal motivation which is often correlated to the above reasons or related stress.  One key to staying on track is make training a priority instead of a hobby, pastime, social event or something to do when nothing else is happening at the moment.  Schedule appointments around your training.  Some of our most healthy clients travel for work or are on call for their patients…and frequently attend our other locations and times after missing their regular program.  They find a way.  Two current clients are undergoing chemotherapy and several others have significant physical limitations, yet they are among our most consistent when it comes to attendance.  One in particular has a condition that comes with significant pain and exercise exclusions but finds it motivating to be around the other clients and likes to hear what I speak about each day.  Again…they find a way to succeed.  Others who are still trying to make fitness a lifestyle sometimes use schedule conflicts to avoid training.  A group text started this morning and included a photo of a van filled with insulation as the reason why she couldn’t make her 0930 class.  Almost immediately, one of our Sharks responded with, “You can’t pick that up before or after class?”  I often remind clients that we have plenty of alternative programs, including early morning, some respond with, “I CAN’T do mornings.”  More accurately stated…they WON’T do mornings.  The truth is that our early morning classes are filled with clients who once made the same claim but adjusted to the time after realizing that by 0700…their personal commitment to themselves was complete and not dependent on how their day unfolds.  Once more, they found a way.  Spend your time and energy finding a way to succeed instead of creating excuses to fail.  Being healthy is a priority…your life depends on it.
