Despite being one of THE most common exercises, chest and triceps dips are NOT a good movement. Not only do they have a very limited range of motion but also can damage and weaken the connective tissue in the shoulder.
What Should You Do Instead of Triceps Dips?
The safe and more effective alternative is the triceps push-up. Unlike regular chest push-ups, the hands are positioned about chest level with the elbows tucked tightly against the side of the body. Point your fingers outward from the body, not in a diamond shape like many mistakenly do. The result? A great, body weight triceps exercise that has a safe, full range of motion and doesn’t risk your shoulder health. Train smart. Train safe. Train hard!
